Dojo Etiquette...

  • This is a smoke free environment; we are setting a positive example for our students. Therefore we expect all parents and students to abide by our no-smoking policy on the entire property, including the parking lot and parked cars. Open windows and the ventilation system in the school will bring any smoke into the training area. There are many young students that train here, including those that are highly sensitive to smoke, including asthma and other respiratory sensitivities.
  • Parents are responsible for their children in the lobby, please leave no children unattended. In the lobby there is no running, roughhousing, loud talking or anything else that would disrupt the instruction of the classes in session. Instructors are not capable to watch children in the lobby as well as instruct class. We also do not allow any food in the lobby.
  • Do your best to be on time, try to be here 15 minutes early, this shows respect to your instructors and other students by not disrupting class. Arriving late to class is frowned upon, but in certain circumstances it will be accepted. When arriving late to class, enter the room quietly and in the back of the room warm up on your own (appropriate amount of jumping jacks and push-ups based on class level), you will then be instructed to join the rest of the class.
  • Keep uniform white, clean, appropriately sized, with no wrinkles or stains. It is important to take pride in you uniform for it's a reflection of the school as well as yourself.
  • Belts must be tied correctly and tight before entering the Dojo. Anyone who does not bring their belt to class must stand at the end of the class line-up.
  • Uniforms should be properly hemmed as needed; no pins or rolling of sleeves or pant legs are permitted due to risk of injury. If adjustments need to be made to the uniform or belt, they should be done before and after exercises while facing the rear of the room. When adjusting the uniform or belt, members should always face away from their instructor, make the needed corrections, and then turn back toward the instructor and bow.
  • Before your first test all of the required patches on your uniform are to be sewn in the proper location.
  • Hands and feet must be clean. There are wipes located at the entrance of the Dojo, please clean your feet thoroughly. Fingernails and toenails must be trimmed. These rules are non-negotiable and must be applied or you will not be allowed to train.
  • Students will line up according to belt rank from highest to lowest and stand quietly at attention.
  • Bow and salute when entering the class and when leaving. Show respect for this place for learning and the instructors. All members should bow in greeting to an instructor, senior members, and also opponents. When demonstrating techniques with the instructor or working with a fellow student always bow before and after the technique is shown or performed.
  • Self-control, patience, and composure should be applied under any circumstances. Failure to do so will ensure an immediate dismissal from the Dojo.
